I was once a smoker in my life. I tried quitting once, when I was diagnosed with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) during college but after a year of quitting, I went back to nicotine addiction.
It is true that this social habit starts with peer pressure during highschool. People tend to find ways how they can feel belong in the a group or society. Also, this provides you a relaxing feeling that you tend to have an oral fixation for something you are stressed about -which is not surprisingly common to call center industry.
Now that I face a more serious health condition with my heart, I do not want to agitate and push myself six feet under. There have been images circulating which looks very terrifying, but likewise mere effective in controlling cigarette smoking. This is lieu with what MMDA has imposed with their warning signs.
I have friends who smoke and I do not force them to quit. In the era where fitness has become more marketable than adding carbon monoxide into our atmosphere, I make sure that I give them thoughts to think about everytime they inhale toxin.
